WOD 31st August Easy Does It

Keeping it light I am walking most days instead getting to the gym.

If the baby is sitting in the right position even the walk can feel a little uncomfortable!!!!

Saying that  I am officially full term!  So is it any surprise I am uncomfortable from time to time. It does also mean that the baby could come anytime from now.

I have to say I am very excited mixed with a few nerves. I think nerves are healthy though?!?!?!

Today I did make it for a training session all be it a light one but hey as I have said before at least I am trying!!

BLOG One Last Party – SW4

Everyone who knows me knows I like a good party, and just because I am pregnant hasn’t stopped me having the odd night out.

My husband and I met in Minstry Of Sound so it is inevitable that we would still make that our place to go for a night out.

When a good DJ has been one the line up I have made sure I have got a few naps in during the day and had a relaxing day to prepare for a late night.

Some might be raising an eye at clubbing pregnant but if you think about it, now there is a smoking ban it’s not all that bad and although I don’t stay till the wee hours like before a few hours of good music is enough for me before I head home to bed.

As well as Minstry every year I make a date in Clapham over the August Bank Holiday at the SW4 Dance Music Festival.

Checking out the line up this year I wasn’t going to miss out!

If anything this would be easier on me then a Friday night out as it is a day event in the outdoors on hopefully a sunny day?!

So the day of SW4 had arrived and as I did a few hours work in the morning it looked like it was shaping up to be a good day. Arriving home and getting ready, the heavens opened and it poured!

So dressing for bad weather I set off with Adrian for what was going to be my last party for a while.

I was really excited to see my favorite DJ’s Above & Beyond.

Arriving at Clapham the queues were huge easily an hour or more! With a big bump and an urgency to use a toilet I approached the security. On seeing my bump they allowed me to by-pass the queue…phew!

Inside the enclosure the rain had turned the common into a mud slide. I was going to have to hold on to Adrian and tread carefully!

Some people enjoyed the mud making the most of the day!

I can’t deny my feet were sore but I was determined to see the day out as Above & Beyond were on last.

We found a good spot at the Group Therapy tent where it wasn’t too muddy or crowded. Adrian and friends made sure that everyone gave me plenty of space around me and when people noticed the bump they all wanted to say congratulations, well done and give the bump good luck rub. Many asking if the baby was moving to the music.

I have to admit that Snoopy slept most of the day but at times cut a few good shapes, letting me know he/she was happy.

Sore feet aside the day was awesome, it was lovely to spend the day with Adrian enjoying the music together and the atmosphere. We both know that soon this will all change , which made it important to spend this last party together.

And now for the final act at the Group Therapy tent, my favorite Above & Beyond.

They opened with some classic tunes and made the tent rock. A lady standing near to us was there with her 15 yr old Grandson who she was looking out for and although she wasn’t there for the music I think she enjoyed the great atmosphere and the show that A & B put on.

They closed with one of my fave tracks On a Good Day. I sang along with every word and jumped and moved to the beat.

I had made it to the end of the day, tired but very happy I had done it!

We left just as Underworld -the main stage headliner were playing out to Born Slippy. What a good track to head home to, we stopped for one more boogie before leaving.

I got home with sore feet but one big smile on my face!!!!

WOD 26th August Less Frequent Training = Good

Anyone who has followed my blog will have noticed that my frequency of training has taken a dip?!?!?

For the first time in my pregnancy I just don’t want to train all the time.

I am not only feeling tired as before but simple things like cleaning my flat and walking to the shops are enough.

I still need a small dose of my Crossfit  love so Friday I tried this out.

AMRAP 15 minutes

I used 7.5kg Dumbells for the Thrusters.

 

BLOG Foods I haven’t been able to live without!

 

Cravings, when your pregnant it is one of the questions that you get asked regularly.

I wouldn’t say I had cravings as such but foods I really fancied and simply had to have.

Is that what constitutes as a craving?

I usually have a real balanced and rounded diet. The main thing that has changed during pregnancy is that I have allowed my every wim.

And why not.

Here are some of my must haves over the last 8.5 months.

  • Appletiser – one bottle is just never enough
  • Flavoured Sparkling water – Peach flavour
  • Goats Cheese -never liked before pregnant
  • Fruit Salad with Squirty cream
  • Steak and chips with loads of mustard
  • Milkyway’s
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Crispy Duck pancakes from the Chinese
  • Salads the way my husband makes them
  • My biggest sin Mr Porky’s Pork Scratchings – its all about the salt, yum.

I can see a few of these things that will have to stop when the baby is born but until then I am going to keep following my tummy.

WOD 23rd August Slowest AMRAP Ever!!!!

Woooow a few days away from training and I am slower the ever. Another sign that the end is nigh I think.

I have just under 2 weeks left of work till I put my feet up till the baby is born. I am in two minds of looking forward to this but also not as my mind wants to keep going but my body is saying take it easy.

I have probably fought these urges for as long as I can as today I am sure if anyone watched me train would have thought I was working in slow motion.

Either way I am proud I have kept it up for so long. Who cares how slow I am at this point at least I am still trying!!

So what did I do……..??????

AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) 20 minutes

BLOG Wisdom Teeth and Zzzzzzz’z

I have had a bit of a monstrous weekend and it looks like my week is set to stay that way too.

I woke up Saturday morning for work with a pain at the back of my mouth. I couldn’t work out if I had just bitten the inside of my gums or worse still my wisdom teeth.

I spent all weekend in pain having to eat soft food and generally being grumpy, so Monday afternoon I made an appointment with the dentist.

It was my wisdom teeth. I must be quite wise as this makes it 3 wisdom teeth so far!

I have been given some antibiotics which I am to take if the pain continues. I have been told they will not effect the baby but just to take them if I really need them.

In the long term I will have to have them removed. There is just not enough room in my mouth for 3 more teeth!

For this I have to wait till the baby is born.

As for trying to get in a workout this week so far…..I have slept so much I am going to take a hint from my body and just chill out at home!

WOD 19th August Sumo’s and Thruster Yuk!

Fridays are always the best part of the week. Everyone is happy that it’s nearly the weekend and it’s even better when the weather is nice too.

Following the strength program today I was due to work on my Overhead squat…. the day just got better for me!

I gotta say though that looking at the board and seeing the rep range though did make me think eek!

3 sets of 10 was on the table…………..I told myself variation is good for the soul.

I know my 1 rep max is 60Kg but I was unsure of a 10 rep max. This is how I broke down the warm up sets.

First I did a practise with just the 20Kg bar. No problem.

It’s all about setting yourself up correctly and getting the most stability out of your body. I may not be able to brace like I use to in my mid section but I sure as hell make my shoulders and back do a lot of work.

My next set I loaded the bar with 30Kg. 10 reps is a challenge, anyone who thinks otherwise needs to give it a go.

I wanted to make one more add to the bar taking it to 35Kg, now pre-pregnancy I may have been able to do 37-40Kg but because of the instability an overhead create and for the benefit of the others around me watching through fingers I decided to air on the side of caution.

I did 3 working sets at 35Kg.

I used 20Kg for this workout. The prescribed weight was anything between 20 and 25Kg for girls.

I got this done in a little under 7 minutes.

The Sumo’s may have been fine but going from that to Thrusters was yuk!!

BLOG Does the Baby Make me Stronger??

It’s a question I have been asked a few times…does the pregnancy make you stronger? Does is make you faster?

I have mulled this over in my mind a lot over the last few weeks and I think I have an answer.

No it doesn’t make me stronger but it does mean I am more in tune with my body and have found that all the changes to my body have meant I have become more efficient at using my body.

To explain that a bit further.

My mid-section has quite obviously changed beyond recognition I don’t have the same mid-line stability as I did before, which is when I have to start making the way I brace really count. I need to make sure that I can call on the rest of my body and ask it to work that bit harder to make sure I am safe.

As for the pregnancy making me faster..well some days I am on form and others I am sluggish and tired. I am jsut really glad I can keep up some kind of routine.

WOD 18th August Crossfit Total

After taking a few days off from training I am back in the gym and ready for whatever Chris has to throw at me.

Stepping in the gym I could see straight away that it was a Total day.

For those who don’t know what Crossfit Total is here is the low down……

Total is a strength workout which includes the 3 key move of strength.

Back Squat, Press and Deadlift.

After a few warm up sets you are working toward a 1 rep max.

You then add up your score to get a total….Simple.

So maybe you are wondering if this is the thing a heavily pregnant women should do……..

Thing is although I am lifting heavy-ish I know from my performance I was not pushing myself to the limits.

A few clues were the speed at which I could make the lifts and the fact that there was NO sticking point.

A sticking point would be the part of the lift where you get stuck and find it hard to drive up and complete.

WOD 12th August Taking Timeout

I have taken some well deserved timeout from everything this week.

I have 5 weeks left till D-day and have really felt the exhaustion of it all.

My week has still included teaching early but where as I normally get on with the rest of my day I have felt so tired I have needed a 30 minute nap.

It hasn’t help that I am awake or at least half awake for most of the night!

Although I love working I am looking forward to finishing as it will mean I can lay in bed that little bit longer.

I kind of get the feeling that the baby wont be letting me have too many lie-in’s so I better take advantage of them while I can!

Anyhow after 3 days of no training I decided to fit in a short working out.

It went like this……..
